My first set lasted me 5 years, and I'm a hairdresser. But definately use clipper oil, it shouldn't be to hard to locate. The only good alternative to SMO, that I have found, is TriFlow synthetic. It is more slippery and longer lasting than regular SMO and available online and in bicycle shops.
